Ammonites

These coiled shell fossils are one of the most common finds along the Jurassic Coast. Ammonites were marine molluscs that lived in the ancient seas and are known for their intricate spiral shapes.

Belemnites

Belemnites are fossilised remains of extinct squid-like creatures known as cephalopods. They have a bullet-shaped internal structure called a rostrum, which is often found washed up on the beaches.

Ichthyosaurs

These marine reptiles ruled the seas during the Jurassic period and are often found as fossilised skeletons or partial remains along the coastline. Ichthyosaur fossils provide valuable insights into the evolution and behaviour of ancient marine life.

Brachiopods

Brachiopods are ancient marine animals that resemble clams but have a different internal structure. Fossilised brachiopods can be found embedded in rocks and cliffs along the Jurassic Coast.

Bivalves

Bivalves are another type of marine mollusc that includes creatures such as clams, oysters, and mussels. Fossilised bivalves are commonly found along the shoreline and can vary in size and shape.

Beach Pebbles

While not fossils themselves, beach pebbles often contain fossilised impressions or imprints known as trace fossils. These can include ripple marks, burrows, and tracks left behind by ancient creatures.

Plant Fossils

In addition to marine fossils, plant fossils can also be found along the Jurassic Coast. These can include fossilised leaves, stems, and seeds, providing clues about the ancient flora that once thrived in the area.

Trace Fossils

These are indirect evidence of ancient life, such as footprints, tracks, and burrows, left behind by animals as they moved or interacted with their environment. Trace fossils can offer valuable insights into the behaviour and ecology of prehistoric creatures.

During a fossil walk along the Jurassic Coast, participants have the opportunity to search for and learn about these fascinating fossils, guided by knowledgeable experts who provide insights into the geological history and ancient ecosystems of the area. It's an exciting and educational experience that offers a glimpse into the distant past of our planet.

Thank you!

We stayed in the Barn with a lovely 4 poster bed which was special. The hosts were so helpful and made our stay feel like we owned the place! We held BBQs on the lawn over looking the valley. It was lovely to feel surrounded by all our close friends and family on such a special Occasion. Thank you for making our wedding perfect.

Home from home

The place was so very clean and welcoming. It was home from home with lots of space, fully furnished with everything you need. We are looking to go back next year, I would highly recommend The Barn such a very peaceful with beautiful place to relax and unwind with breath taking scenery.

What's not to love

The Farmhouse is full of the character you'd expect in a 14th Century property. Blackbird is a very well converted farm building. En suite bathrooms, log burners. Everything we wanted. All set in beautiful Dorset countryside and 5 mins to the coast. What's not to love. We'll be back!

The kids loved the pool

We stayed in a group of 6 and everything was cleaned and well organised. The aga takes some getting used to, but it was great to have a bbq to enjoy the last bit of sun of this year. The kids loved the shared swimming pool and horse.
